Venita passed peacefully from the loving arms of family into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 1. She entered into Glory on that day, joining the love of her life, Ronnie Brooks; her parents, Fred and Ruby Shipley of Clovis NM; her brother, Freddy Shipley of Granbury TX, and many other family members and dear friends preceding her in death. What a joyous reunion that must have been.
Venita was born in Amherst TX on April 9, 1940 ...
Her family moved from Amherst to Welch Texas to farm, where she attended first grade at Dawson School. Later her family moved to Brownfield where her parents started an Oliver tractor dealership and she attended grade school up into her high school years, until her parents expanded including a car dealership in Tahoka Texas that eventually moved them there to complete her high school years,
... and it was there that she met and married the love of her life Ronnie of 59 years, and they moved full circle back to her family farm at Welch to begin farming and raising their family. After 20 wonderful years on the farm, their two children had grown and left home and in 1980 they moved to Clovis NM into a new adventure together of selling furniture in her retiring parents' store: Shipley Furniture. This was an adventure they fully embraced together, though quite different from the plowing and planting and working the land. But Ronnie enjoyed people, so he put on a coat and tie every day, and Venita had a true talent for all things pretty in the home. And they enjoyed their years in Clovis. After retirement from the furniture store business, they moved to Wolfforth, back home in Texas to be closer to their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who were the joy of their lives!
The wonderful legacy that she leaves with her family is an eternal one. One of loving and trusting God, and believing what He promises in His Word, and the power and comfort of His Holy Spirit. She was a true example of His unconditional love. The family would probably all agree that her favorite scriptures would be from Genesis 1:1 - Revelation 22:21, the whole Bible! She loved to read it and apply it to her life and to her family's lives, and she saw many miracles and prayers answered in her days. She stood strong in her faith to the very end, and in her last days on this earth, when her thinking and conversation became a bit foggy and jumbled, her prayers were still as clear and powerful as always. All of her family will surely cherish those prayers and will miss her very much! But we all take comfort that we will see her again.
Venita is survived by her son Ricky Brooks and wife Becca of Stephenville. Daughter Kimmy Hayes and husband Tommy of Lubbock. Four grandchildren, Trey Hayes and wife Rebecca of Lubbock, Wendy Teeter and husband Clay of New Home, Tye Hayes and wife Kara of Lubbock, Holly Cotten and husband Casey of Shallowater, and seven great-grandchildren, Tagen and Tatum Hayes, Laney Teeter, Tabor and Tinley Hayes, and Brooks and Barrett Cotten.
