Verda Nell Wolfe
January 31, 1927 – May 21, 2020
Verda Nell Hamiter Wolfe, 93, went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on May 21, 2020, in Lubbock, Texas. She was born January 31, 1927, in Sulphur Springs, Texas to Marvin A. Hamiter, Sr. and Winnie D. Bass Hamiter.
She lost her mother at a young age and was taken in by her aunts who lovingly helped raise her and guide her into being a strong, self-sufficient woman.
On May 3, 1947, she married James B. Wolfe in Dallas, Texas. Their marriage was the envy of many, and they shared 70 years together until J.B.’s passing in 2018. She was a loving mother to their three sons, James Gordon, William Gregory, and Charles Gary, and later became a doting grandmother to her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas. After her marriage, she and JB attended Baylor University together. She went on to earn her Chartered Life Underwriter, Certified Financial Planner and Certified Pension Consultant designations. In 1974, she founded Pension Concepts and Administration in Lubbock, and later expanded to a Dallas location. She served as Vice President and later, President of the Lubbock Chapter of American Society of CLU and ChFC. She was also named as a Notable Woman of Texas in 1984 and was published in the Who’s Who of Finance and Industry in 1994 and 2000. She loved her work and remained an active member of the office until she was 85 years old.
She loved animals and always spoiled her pets rotten. She was an adventurous cook in the kitchen, sometimes serving some pretty unique things to her family, but always delicious. Holiday meals, celebrations and Sunday afternoons were always a feast. She kept a beautiful garden and her purple irises were her most prized. She was a gifted seamstress and artist, decorating the walls and windows of her home with her beautiful creations. She was an active member of the church her entire life and had a remarkable relationship with our Lord. She sang in the choir, played piano, and led Sunday school classes for young adults and women. She was a long term member of Oakwood Baptist Church in Lubbock.
