OBITUARY

Vinnie Elizabeth Crisp

January 11, 1918October 7, 2020

Vinnie Elizabeth (Channell) Crisp was born January 11, 1918 in Wapanucka, Oklahoma. She was the youngest of her mother’s 13 children and her father’s 23 children.

At the ripe old age of 15, she met and married Charlie Crisp, the love of her life, and they enjoyed 70 years of matrimony until his death in 2004, at the age of 91.

She made her way through this life with an eight-grade education, tenacity, and the power of The Almighty. Vinnie gave birth to 7 children and taught them the value of hard work and the supremacy of God.

While they began their life in Oklahoma, the family moved to the Texas Panhandle in the early 1940’s. Vinnie stayed steadfast as a homemaker, while farming, gardening, canning, and all the other activities that her generation engaged in for basic survival.

After raising her children, she worked beside her husband, Charlie, who always referred to her as his “rib,” as a house painter, and even as a roofer. Always ready to lend a hand, she habitually fed stray cats as well as took in a few stray humans.

The Crisps were active members of Bacon Heights Baptist Church, where Vinnie remained after the passing of her husband. She lived independently until just after her 100th birthday and loved singing for “the old people” in nursing homes with the church choir, the Sonshiners.

Despite losing 2 children in infancy, she leaves a legacy of 5 children, 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous great-great and great-great-great-grandchildren.

She entered the gates of heaven on October 7, 2020, after a brief bought of Covid-19, and after 16 years, Charlie finally has his “rib” back.
