Born in Gainesville, Texas February 16, 1925. He grew up in Dickens County at Spur, Texas and graduated from Spur High School in May 1943. He entered the service after high school and served overseas in the Aquatic-Pacific war zone during World War II. He then returned to the states in 1946 for an honorable discharge. Entered V.A. Hospital in 1947 for treatment and stayed most of 1947. In the latter part of 1947 he worked for Farmer’s Co-op in Spur. During 1948 he attended college in Lubbock, Texas. 1949 to 1954 Worked again for Farmer’s Co-op. From 1954 to 1956 he was a bookkeeper for the City of Spur. 1956 Virgil Met his future wife Lona Dell Arthur of Dickens, Texas. Virgil moved to Lubbock in August of 1956 and worked for two different companies; an office manager until February 1964 when he went to work for Texas State Comptroller of Public Accounts as a tax officer retiring in 1987.
The high point of his life was when Lona Dell Arthur and he married on December 28, 1958. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in December 2008.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Roxie Davis in 1978, Imogene Recknagel in1998; brothers, Clyde Rogers in 1981, Henry Rogers in 1990, and Cleo Rogers in 1991; his father Burris Rogers in 1956; and his mother Minnie L. Rogers in 1964
Virgil loved his family and friends. He was a man of few words but he was always ready to help those in need.
He is survived by his loving wife Lona Dell Rogers of Lubbock; and numerous other relatives and friends.
The family will gather to receive friends on Wednesday October 29, 2014 from 5:30pm until 7:00pm at Resthaven Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held on Thursday October 30, 2014 at 10:00 am at Quaker Avenue Church of Christ. Entombment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.
