

W.D. “Buddy” Ball, 92, born on August 27, 1922, in Anson, Texas to Sybil Ruth and Harold Ball, passed away on September 2, 2014. Graveside services will be held in Resthaven Memorial Park at 10:00 a.m. Friday September 5, 2014 with Doyle Gilliam and Mel Billington, church of Christ ministers officiating.
Buddy grew up in Patricia and attended Klondike schools. After graduating High School he moved to San Diego where he worked in an airplane factory during World War II., and later enlisted in the US Army.
Buddy returned to Lamesa and married Marianne McBride in 1951, and they lived much of their life together in Brownfield. Buddy worked as a self-employed farmer and started many small businesses in Brownfield including the retail merchants association, a car lot, a wrecking yard, and an insurance agency.
Buddy and Marianne moved to Lubbock in 1965. Together they were blessed with three boys, Max Ball, Rex Ball and Zak Ball. Marianne preceded Buddy in death in 1968.
Buddy later married Christine McSwain in 1980. Although they had no children together Buddy enjoyed the blessing of three stepdaughters, Karrie Williams, Ruthie Owens, and Donna Horn. Christine passed away in 1993.
Buddy was a member of the church of Christ.
He is survived by three sons: Max Ball of Dallas, Rex Ball of Los Angeles, and Zak Ball of Lubbock; and a stepdaughter Donna Horn of Austin.
The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at Southaven Assisted Living facility, especially his nurse, Libby, for the compassion they showed him during his last few years of life.
