Wenceslao M. Gellido (also known as Val or Wayne) of Lubbock, TX passed away on November 10, 2025. He was born on October 5th,1938 in Dagupan City, Pangasinan, Philippines to Filomena and Celestino Gellido. He attended Calasiao High School and
graduated in the class of 1954. He later went on to obtain his Bachelor of Entomology from Aranita University, Philippines. Wenceslao then began his career in entomology working for the local government in the malaria control department.
Wenceslao married Lydia on June 6,1965 and had two children Mila and Cesar. The family immigrated to the United States in 1972 to New Jersey where they lived for 6 years; he worked for the state health department Vector Control. His wife, Lydia accepted a nursing job in West Texas and they moved to the Lone Star State in 1978. Their first Texas home was in Coahoma, where he carpooled 100 miles a day to Midland working in the state health
department as a health inspector. He transferred to the Lubbock health department in 1990 where he retired after 30 years of selfless service.
Wenceslao was a proud founding member of the Filipino-American Association of the South Plains in Lubbock and had a passion in making others laugh as well as playing basketball. He will always be remembered not only for his love of fishing, bowling and gardening, but his generosity as well.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, November 14 at Resthaven's Abbey Chapel.
Pallbearers for the service will be Cesar Gellido, Mikael French, Maliek French, Andy Weaver, Eddie Levins, and Keith Leano Sr.
He is preceded in death by his beloved parents Celestino and Filomena Gellido, and his brothers Isidro (Eddie) and Napoleon (Nap) Gellido.
Wenceslao is survived by his spouse Lydia Gellido; his sister Julie Lopez; his children Mila French and Cesar Gellido; his grandchildren Mikael French and Maliek French; and his many nephews and nieces in the Philippines, California, Canada, and Australia.
