William Charles Addison, 94, of Lubbock, Texas passed peacefully into God’s glory on Wednesday, November 19, 2025. He was born on July 25, 1931 in Shamrock, Texas to Marion Franklin Addison and Thelma Lee Gartrell Addison. Charles graduated as salutatorian from Kelton High School in 1949. The only member of his family to attend college, he left his rural farming community and headed to the big city of Lubbock, where he graduated from Texas Technological College in 1954 with a degree in agricultural education. He immediately joined the United States Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant, serving as an instructor in aircraft maintenance in Illinois, the Azores, Georgia, Texas, Alaska, Korea, and back to Texas, where he retired in 1975 at Reese AFB as a major after 20 years of service. He then went back to Tech and earned an accounting degree. He retired a second time in 2002.
In 1953, while at Tech, Charles met a cute student nurse waiting at the bus station downtown with a mutual friend. That chance meeting led to 71 blessed years with his wife, Gladys Bodling. They married on October 8, 1954 in Lubbock, and thus began the adventure of a family with three kids.
Charles was a member of Green Lawn Church of Christ for 56 years, serving as a deacon for a number of years. He was a voracious reader and enjoyed working in his prized yard and garden. He was extremely organized and meticulous with documents, tools, and electronics. He especially loved all kinds of gadgets, including learning to use a computer at the young age of 75. He was notorious at using blocking strategies when playing Pollyanna, our family’s favorite board game. He will always be remembered for how he loved and served his family. He could be depended on to help with anything, from painting the house to writing a check for a medical procedure. He gave quiet advice, always wise and understanding.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, M.F. and Thelma Addison, and sisters, Glenna Boswell and Joan Boyd. Survivors include his wife, Gladys, and children Susan White (Myron) of Lubbock, Steve Addison of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Mark Addison (Gretchen) of Bear, Delaware. His beloved grandchildren are Sarah Carter (Bobby), Lindsay Saxon, and Erika Addison (Angela), and precious great-grandchildren are Brookelynn White, Hannah Carter, Boston Saxon, and Blake Saxon, plus numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors on Friday, November 28, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Resthaven Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 29, at Resthaven with interment immediately following. The family would like to sincerely thank the kind and considerate caregivers at Covenant Hospital, Crown Point, Interim Hospice, and especially Legacy of the South Plains. The family suggests memorials to the benevolence center at Green Lawn Church of Christ.
