

One of nine siblings he was born near Clarendon, Tx on January 29, 1926 to Linnie and William Floyd Shannon.
He grew up on a farm where his life long love of open spaces, all things agricultural and wide prairies began. A graduate of Plainview High School at 17 and drafted into the Army at 18, Bill served in the 69th infantry division and was awarded the Bronze Star for valor in the Battle of Leipzig. After being discharged he served with the Texas National Guard and attended Wayland Baptist College where he met and married Bobbie Harris. They celebrated their 71st anniversary last fall. Bill worked in the cotton industry of West Texas throughout his career. He enjoyed many years of hunting with family and friends, raising bird dogs and he was an avid gardener and delighted in studying and growing grapes. Bill's life centered around his immediate family and his close knit Shannon family, his work, many friendships old and new, his deep love for his country and his strong, quiet faith inspired by the majesty of nature and the growing seasons on the High Plains.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: William Price Shannon (Avo), Ted Shannon (Fern), Ralph Shannon (Elizabeth), Raymond Shannon (Dorothy), Harold Shannon, Mary Ruth Shannon Stoneham Bond (John Stoneham, Jack Bond); sister-in-law, Doris Shannon; brother-in-law, E.G Berry; nephews: Larry Shannon and Monty Shannon and niece, Patsy Shannon. Bill is survived by his wife, Bobbie Shannon, his daughter, Karen Shannon (Dallas) and son, Steve Shannon (and daughter in law, Nancy Groves (San Francisco) as well as grandchildren: Jay Ingram, Katherine Ingram, Will Shannon and Sarah Shannon. He is survived by his siblings Rex Shannon of San Antonio and Nell Berry of Universal City, TX and Sister in Law Maxine Shannon of Dallas and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will held and live streamed at Resthaven Cemetery in Lubbock on Monday, January 17, 2:00 pm. Due to covid a celebration of life service will be scheduled at a later date.
The family would like to express deep appreciation to the caregivers that helped in the last weeks of his life - Dora Salazar, hospice nurses - Kim Barnet and Lindsey Risdon.
