
Wyman Richey, a beloved educator, musician, and passionate golf enthusiast, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2025, in Lubbock, Texas, at the age of 92. Wyman was born on March 18, 1933, in Pleasant Valley, Texas, to John F. and Irene Richey.
He graduated from Slaton High School in 1950.This passion for music continued as he pursued further studies at Texas Tech University, where he further cultivated his talents and made lifelong memories.
After completing his education, Wyman dedicated his life to teaching and inspiring young minds. His career as an educator spanned several esteemed institutions, including Springlake-Earth Schools, O'Donnell High School, Smyer, Lubbock Independent School District (LISD), and Frenship Independent School District (ISD), where he ultimately retired.
In his leisure time, Wyman found joy and solace on the golf course. His enthusiasm for the game allowed him to bond with friends and family, creating cherished memories that will be treasured forever.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Irene Richey; his beloved son, Lee Richey; and his two wives, Mary Lou Richey and Mahota Mitchell Richey. His legacy continues through his surviving son, Will Richey, as well as his brother and sister-in-law, John and Elaine Richey, and his stepdaughters, Leisha Womble and Angie Bowe.
