November 6, 1935 - August 27, 2025
‘We do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.’ —I Thessalonians 4:13, 14, NIV.
Life Reflections
‘Yvonne Anderson Williams was born on November 6, 1935, in Hammond, located in Robertson County, Texas. Her proud and loving parents were LT Jack Anderson and Mae Reather (Essix) Anderson.’
After graduating from Dunbar, her High School Alma mater, in 1955, she furthered her secretarial & administrative office career-path training through collegiate & vocational academic education (e.g., Texas Technological University, Lubbock, Texas).
In 1956, she joyfully married Staff Sergeant John H. Williams, Sr., whose service as a USAF veteran stationed at Reese Air Force Base brought them together during a pivotal time in their lives.
In 1968, following her husband’s successful tour in Vietnam & during their station at Laughlin AFB near Del Rio, Texas, Yvonne put her secretarial skills to use at the City of Del Rio Utilities Office.
Relative to her passion for serving others, she accepted a transitional career offer as a Southwestern Bell Operator in 1973.
In 1983, after the court-ordered breakup of AT&T and its subsidiaries—a process known as Divestiture—she was recruited by AT&T, where she continued her career for 20 years until her honorary retirement.
(Yvonne earned numerous awards throughout her career for outstanding accomplishments, customer appreciation & team dependability).
Hobbies & Interests
Yvonne loved music, singing, and playing the piano. She was known for a uniquely soulful & beautiful voice for Gospel music, one that resonated with deep emotion by her heartfelt, gifted singing.
She auditioned & recorded at a renowned DFW recording studio (Studio name unknown), where legendary artists like the Pointer Sisters have also worked, marking a significant milestone in her musical journey.
(“Apple” was a nickname given to Yvonne by relatives because of her radiant countenance and bright-eyed smile as a young woman).
Yvonne’s gentle spirit was reflected in the care she gave to her beautiful garden, occasionally sharing flowers with friends and finding joy in quiet moments among her plants. Her faith inspired her kindness and generosity toward others.
She also enjoyed reading & shopping her favorite stores—most especially, Mardell’s Christian Books.
Because of her love for people, she easily made friends. She happily practiced the gift of giving, generously donating to local food banks and supporting families in crisis over the years. —Acts 20:35-36, NIV.
Later Years
‘In later years, Yvonne’s health declined, particularly after she suffered catastrophic injuries from falls between 2019 and 2020, which coincided with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.’
‘Despite the challenges, Arturo provided compassionate care for his mother, demonstrating deep devotion and resilience during a difficult time for their family.’
On Saturday morning, March 1, 2025, Yvonne suffered a massive stroke. Notwithstanding insistent challenges during months of hospitalization and skilled nursing stays, her unwavering love for her children gave her strength until her last moments.
On the morning of August 27, 2025, when she was to be awakened for breakfast, nursing staff found her to be unresponsive & not breathing. She had fallen asleep in Christ Jesus. — I Thessalonians 4:13-15, NIV.
The Legacy Of A Life Well Lived, In Christ
“This is the day which the LORD Hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” — Psalm 118:24, KJV.
A Shared Memory
One of my favorite Bible verses that I shared with Mom some years ago is, “This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24, KJV). Before her massive stroke ... she would joyfully paraphrase this scripture upon awakening each day and share it with family and friends.
Drawing strength from our family’s faith in the resurrection hope, may it be of comforting assurance to all who knew & loved our mom, Yvonne.
The true God has made the ransom provision through His son Jesus Christ so that we have the assured hope of embracing our loved ones again in perfect health in God’s heavenly kingdom (I Cor. 15: 42-44; Phil. 3:20-21, KJV).
Yvonne A. Williams leaves ‘The Legacy Of A Life Well Lived, In Christ’ & surviving to her loving remembrance:
"Her son, Arturo Williams (who she referred to as her birthday baby); her daughter, Sharon K. (Williams) Dorrough (Robert; Taylor); and her son, John H. Williams, Jr., who preceded her in passing. She was also preceded by her husband, John H. Williams, Sr., and her parents, LT. Jack & Mae Reather (Essix) Anderson. She cherished her first cousin, Waddell Evans of Denver, Colorado, with whom she enjoyed much of her upbringing."
Further loving acknowledgement of the beloved is a host of surviving cousins & friends.
With eternal love,
ARTURO WILLIAMS
