Zerne Matney

Zerne Matney, 90, passed away into God’s loving embrace on Saturday, August 6, 2011. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved to cook and travel and was a devoted Christian.

She was born on September 11, 1920 in Albany, Texas to Nolan S. and Willie Gertrude Johnson. After working in Brownwood as a bookkeeper, she married Ray Matney on June 8, 1946 in Abilene.

Zerne is survived by her husband Ray; her daughter Gayla Dirks and husband Jimmy of Lubbock; her daughter Rayna Shaunfield and husband George of Dickinson; her daughter Jill Chorneyko and husband David of Houston. She is also survived by her four grandchildren -- Monica Groeschel of Houston, Brent Dirks of Flower Mound, Kirk Shaunfield of Longmont, Colo. and Angela Snyder of Gaithersburg, Md. Zerne also has six great-grandchildren – Abigail and Megan Groeschel; Madeline and Ryan Dirks; Audrey and Brooke Snyder.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 9 in the chapel at Broadway Church of Christ with burial to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Condolences may be offered at www.resthavenfuneralhome.com.
