Roberta Zoe Middleton Koinzan was called to her heavenly home on May 21, 2022 at the age of 97. She peacefully joined her Lord and Savior, her beloved husband Buss, her parents, and her ten siblings. Zoe was born on the family farm near Shallowater, Texas on October 17, 1924, the tenth of eleven children born to Robert Morris and May Middleton. She graduated from Shallowater High School in 1942. Soon after, she met and married a soldier, Erwin Frederick (Buss) Koinzan, who was stationed at the Lubbock Air Field. He was ten years older, from a large Nebraska ranch family of German heritage. It was an unlikely match of God's making.
Zoe was a dedicated homemaker, mother, and wife. She was especially skilled in bookkeeping which was of great help in her husband’s masonry business. Her family were long time members of Shallowater Baptist church. Zoe worked in Sunday school, Girls’ Auxiliary, Women’s Missionary Union as well as numerous other activities throughout the years. She also greatly enjoyed senior citizen lunch followed by domino games of 42 with friends at the Shallowater Clubhouse.
Zoe learned to love God and His Word with her siblings at the feet of her father from an early age. She frequently and proudly reminisced of how her beloved father would “fill the pulpit” when the preacher couldn’t get to the country church due to bad weather. She was greatly affected by the premature death of her father when she was seven. She never strayed from that Godly heritage, taught and modeled by her parents.
In, 2009, Zoe moved to Houston to be near her daughter and son-in-law. She is survived by her daughter Barbara and husband Bill Hadley; son Wilcey Koinzan and wife Vicki of Midland; grandson Blade Koinzan and wife Christi of San Angelo and their children, Christopher Taylor, wife Amy and son Easton; Bryson Taylor, wife Madison, and daughter Blakely; daughter Kelsea Crawford and husband Tyler of Abilene; granddaughter Misty Scott, husband Toben and their children, Khloe, Khelan, and Kensey of Midland.
