PROCTORSVILLE - Gene Russel Tucker, born March 31, 1949, son of Esther (Johnson) and Norman H. Tucker, passed away at his home Monday, June 19, 2017, at the age of 68. He was surrounded and held by the love of family and friends. Gene was proud to grow up on his family's hill farm in Ludlow, VT. After attending area schools, he worked at Maynard's Farm on South Hill. He then went to Schmidt Lumber Co., he delivered coal for Montany & Montany and then, he worked at the Jewell Brook Woolen Mill. He was a member of the Army Reserve, and he worked as a lineman for the Ludlow Telephone Co. for 10 years. He was later a carpenter and a logger, but his most beloved endeavor was the time he spent in Heron, Montana, as a hunting and fishing guide at The Wilderness Lodge. After returning from Montana, Gene found himself back in the woods. With his own skidder, he spent the next several years logging for himself. He stopped his work in the woods seven years ago to not only help his wife as a home-provider, but to use his carpentry skills to make improvements to their home. Of all the jobs he had, Gene took the most pride in being a loving husband and father. He was particularly proud of his daughter, Sarah, born to him and his former wife, Rebecca, in 1976. In 1988, he fell in love with Sandy, the girl next door. They were married in 1989 and he took into his heart and raised with her, her three children Brianna, Justin and Michael, all of whom are better people and feel honored to have had his love and influence in their lives. Gene was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was an expert marksman, and a connoisseur of hot dogs and marshmallows expertly burned over a campfire. He loved Willie Nelson and a good John Wayne movie. He enjoyed cross country skiing, snowshoeing and he played a mean game of cribbage. He cherished time with his family and friends. He was at his best when teaching his love of hunting and fishing to the next generation. Gene was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Norman E. "Normie," and his sister, Joanne O. "Jobie" Tucker. He is survived by his wife, Sandy; his daughter, Sarah; his stepchildren Brianna, Justin and Michael; his brothers Jim and his wife, Peggy, Jerry and his wife, Debbie, and Billy and his wife, Marcy. Gene is also survived by his seven grandchildren; loving nieces and nephews; many cousins; and last, but certainly not least, a strong network of loving friends. A celebration of life will be held at Gene's home, 881 Main Street in Proctorsville, VT, on Saturday, June 24, 2017. The service will begin at 1 p.m., followed by a potluck. Friends and family are encouraged to bring a dish to share, memories of Gene and stories to tell. Gene will be missed by many, and forgotten by none. "May the fishing be good, the hunting be better, the mountains big and the skies endless."Arrangements under the direction of Adams Funeral Homes, Ludlow, Vermont.
