

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday August 6, 2011 at First Baptist Church, Lumberton for Mr. Harry Lazenby, 88, of Lumberton, Mississippi who died Thursday August 4, 2011 in the Pearl River County Hospital, Poplarville. Reverend John Sapp of the First Baptist Church of Lumberton and Reverend Cliff Lazenby of the Hattiesburg Community Church will officiate at the service. Burial will follow in the Lumberton City Cemetery with military honors.
Mr. Lazenby was a faithful member and servant of First Baptist Church, Lumberton. He served as a deacon for many years. He was a veteran of World War II where he was awarded the Purple Heart after being wounded in Italy in 1944. He was a part of the European, African, and Middle Eastern Campaign and received the Bronze Service Star, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Good Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Medal, and the Distinguished Unit Badge. He spent almost three years in military hospitals after being wounded. He was discharged from the Army in 1947.
He was a graduate of Lumberton High School. After the war, he graduated from Mississippi State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture. He taught agriculture in Beaumont, Mississippi. Mr. and Mrs. Lazenby then moved to Picayune, Mississippi, where he worked for Farm Bureau Insurance They then acquired three small insurance agencies and formed the Lumberton Insurance Agency and served as both Agent and Owner for over thirty years. Mr. Lazenby was a humble and kind servant of God, a distinguished businessman, a very active community member, an avid fisherman, a loving husband, a caring father, a wonderful grandfather, an encouraging brother, and a special friend to many.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Woodson and Linder Bell Cobb-Lazenby; one brother, Wilson Lazenby; sisters, Mattie Lee, Annie Clyde Lee, Genie Lazenby, and Mary Cooley.
Survivors include his wife, Farris Lazenby; one daughter, Margaret Lazenby; two sons, Glenn Lazenby and his wife Jean, all of Lumberton, MS and Cliff Lazenby and his wife Joanne of Hattiesburg, MS; three grandchildren, Valorie Hilbun and her husband Bruce of Huntsville, AL, Kaci Lazenby and Jeffrey Lazenby, both of Hattiesburg, MS; three great-grandchildren, Allison, David, and Dean Hilbun of Huntsville, AL, one sister, Ruth Whitten and her husband John of Huntsville, Texas; two brothers, Earl Lazenby of Houston, Texas and Neal Lazenby and his wife Myrna Ruth of Purvis, MS; along with a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Lazenby, Raymond Swartz, Darryl Smith, Dr. Wade Bishop, Mark Bishop, and Rich Kohnke. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of First Baptist Church, Lumberton and the beloved members of Harry’s Sunday School Class.
Mr. Lazenby will be greatly missed but his “Legacy of Faith” and kindness to all will be treasured and remembered for generations to come! “Well Done My Good and Faithful Servant!”
Visitation will be 9:00 am until the time of services Saturday August 6, 2011 at First Baptist Church, Lumberton.
