

Alice Lee was born in Durham, North Carolina on March 2, 1924 the daughter of the late Dr. Haywood M. Taylor and Alice Lee Brown Taylor. She attended Randolph-Macon Woman’s College, Lynchburg, Virginia, graduated from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and received a Master’s Degree in Medical Social Work from Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana in 1948. She was Director of Social Work at Southeastern Regional Medical Center, Lumberton, North Carolina opening the department in 1971 and retiring in March, 1984.
She married G.B. McLeod III in 1955 and lived in Lumberton until 1997. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Daughters of the American Revolution and a charter member of the Lumberton Junior Service League.
Surviving are her daughter Alice Lee McLeod Dawkins and her husband Duncan Wilson Dawkins of Pine Knoll Shores, North Carolina and her son George Badger MacLeod IV and his wife Thida Aung MacLeod of Half Moon Bay, California. Four grandchildren, Alicia McLeod McFarland, George Duncan Dawkins, Ian Alexander MacLeod, and Elias Toivo MacLeod. Three great granddaughters, Kaitlyn Alise McFarland, Sarah Morgan McFarland, and Emily Taylor McFarland. Her sister Martha Anne Treen of Metairie, Louisiana.
Visitation will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Biggs Funeral Home, 801 North Chestnut Street, Lumberton, NC with a graveside service following at 11:00 AM at Meadowbrook Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Davis Community (thedaviscommunity.org) who cared G.B. and Alice Lee in their final years or to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation (LCFH.org).
