He was born on September 14, 1953 in Lynchburg, son of Mazie Helen Crews and the late Oma Crews. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by wife, Judy Crews.
John retired from RR Donnelly after 38 years. In his spare time he enjoyed camping, spending time by his pool and with his dog, Bandit. His greatest joy however, was spending time with his grandkids, Afton and Johnny, who affectionately referred to him as “Pops”. He was well known at their sporting events which he attended regularly.
Survivors include his mother, Mazie Helen Crews; daughter, January Crews-Sanchez and husband Alexis; 1 brother, Jerry Crews and wife Jill; 1 sister, Mary Lee Nunnally and husband Doug; 2 grandchildren, Afton and Johnny Sanchez; 4 nieces and nephews, Jeff Crews and wife Jennifer, J.T. Crews and wife Hannah, Douglas Nunnally and wife Sarah, and Lynn Nunnally. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews on his wife’s side of the family.
The family will receive friends from 4 – 7 pm Sunday, July 21, 2019 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. Services will be private.
