Dear Werthermer Family, It is with deep sadness, that I learned of Mrs. Werthermer's passing. Mr. Werthermer worked for several years, with my mother, Helen H. Brown at Tenneco. My condolences and prayers of comfort are being sent your way. Mrs. Werthermer was a shining example in our community.

So sorry for your loss. She was a grand lady one to rival Violet on Downton Abbey. I remember her at Seth and Sarah's wedding ridding the shuttle to  the site ramrod straight back, fur covered and looking ahead. I imagine Heaven will be getting ready for inspection.

Wow...what a life. The planet and anyone who knew her will miss her. She is a wonderful memory from my childhood. As it turns out my wife Mallory's father Marshall Peters dated Alice in high school(we're pretty sure). You will be in our prayers....Kenny and Mallory Spencer

I have several from that wonderful time when our mothers were young and doing their best to get things done in the community. I am sorry we can not be there today, you and your family are in our thoughts here in NC.

What a fireball Alice Wertheimer was along with being a best friend of my mother-in-law, Mrs. Russell (Elinor) "Red" Buxton who was also a fellow gardener and member of the Hampton Roads Garden Club. I remember when Chip and I returned to the Peninsula in 1979 after a several year's stint in Florida and at our new house that  first fall in James Landing we were suddenly deluged with autumn leaves. We raked and raked and raked and no matter how much we raked we could never keep up with the falling leaves. In pure desperation, one afternoon, I foolishly  put a bundle of leaves in a burn basket in the back yard and lit a match. To my immediate horror, awful, white billowy smoke filled the air and as I dashed to the  back yard hose to immediately douse the fire, a tiny woman about half my size, she might have been an elf, appeared at my back gate. "You are smoking up the environment!" she shouted in a voice far greater than her persona. It was Alice Wertheimer guarding the quality of our air as well she should and as I embarrassedly apologized and then, worse, had to tell her who I was, she said it's a good thing my mother-in-law who had long since passed away didn't know what I had done! We laughed but I never forgot the lesson I learned that afternoon nor the passion of Alice Wertheimer to preserve our clean air. What a gal!
