Born in Bedford, August 21, 1941, he was the son of the late Lawrence Douglas Bowyer and Mary Newman Bowyer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Chad Edward Bowyer; two brothers, Richard Bowyer and Lewis Bowyer and two sisters, Emma Davis and Mary Hodnett.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Chloe Anne Bowyer; his son, Gordon Bowyer, Jr. (Cyndi); two daughters, Kathy Bowyer Spector and Amy Jonas; daughter in law, Amanda Bowyer, three sisters; Rachel Beeler, Judy Mitchell and Jean Foley; brother in law, Tommy Davis;11 grandchildren, Marissa Williams (Xander), Logan Spector, Joshua Bowyer, Caleb Bowyer, Jasmine Agee (Dylan), Micaella Jonas, Kieran Bowyer (Kate), Isabella Bowyer, Samson Bowyer, Stella Bowyer, and Cole Roman; and one great grandchild, Ellis Williams and one on the way, Lainey Agee.
Gordon dedicated an impressive 56 years of his life to General Electric (G.E.) and Ericsson. His dedication and hard work were a testament to his strong work ethic and loyalty.
Beyond his professional achievements, he found immense joy in the great outdoors. An avid lover of nature, he spent countless hours hunting, fishing, and tending to his beloved garden. His connection to the land reflected his appreciation for life's simple pleasures.
Gordon's zest for life extended to his leisure activities. He found camaraderie and joy in playing softball with friends, creating cherished memories on the field. His competitive spirit and love for the game brought laughter and unity to those around him.
Known for his generous spirit, he actively participated in community service. Volunteering with Meals on Wheels, he demonstrated compassion by ensuring that those in need received nourishing meals and a warm smile. He was also involved in a wood cutting ministry, selflessly providing cut wood to individuals facing hardships. His dedication to helping others warmed the hearts of the community.
Always ready to lend a helping hand, Gordon's kindness knew no bounds. Whether it was offering assistance to a neighbor or supporting a friend in need, he exemplified the true meaning of community and friendship.
The family will receive friends on Monday, January 29, 2024, from 12:00 – 12:45 pm at Whitten Timberlake Chapel where a Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 pm with Rev. Ken Parrish officiating.
Burial will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the entire staff at Bedford Hospice House, the nurses at Lynchburg General Hospital in the Emergency Room, Cardiac Ward and Oncology for their exceptional care and support during Gordon’s time there.
