Obituary of Ann Hancock Wilson
Ann Hancock Wilson, of Lynchburg, wife of Robert Hilton Wilson, passed away unexpectedly May 28, 2024 at her residence. Born February 13, 1955 in Bedford, she was the daughter of the late James R. and Jennie A. Hancock. Ann was raised on the family farm in Huddleston, Va. And enjoyed her childhood there, except for “pullin’ tobacco.” During her teenage years, she also played the piano at her church, Mt. Horeb United Methodist. After graduating from Staunton River High School and CVCC, she was employed briefly by the Lane Company and Lynchburg General, and she worked for a few years at the Sheltered Workshop of Altavista. Finally, in 1980, she went to work as the office manager of the Blue Ridge Emergency Medical Services Council, where, for the next 40 years, she was simply known by the Emergency Service personnel as “Ann at BREMS”. Ann and Robert loved to travel, and took trips to the British Isles, Canadian Rockies, Iceland, and cruises on the Rhine and Douro Rivers, Baltic, Mediterranean and Caribbean Seas, Alaska, Hawaii, and the Mexican Riviera with their friends. In their” younger” days, Ann and Robert camped along the Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge Parkway, especially at Loft Mountain and the Peaks of Otter. Ann had a passion for Jackson Browne music, Downtown Lynchburg, and especially, Virginia Wine. After meeting Gabrielle Rausse (the Godfather of Virginia Wine) in the mid-eighties, he infected her with a desire to explore and savor all Virginia had to offer in her expanding viticulture. At that time, it was hit or miss, but has improved to the point where Virginia is winning international competitions. In all, Ann and Robert visited over 200 Virginia wineries over the years. Ann was always ready with a smile, and looked for the good in everyone. She was a cherished wife, and a friend you wanted to keep for life. She will be sorely missed by many good, loving friends. In addition to her husband, Ann is survived by her brother, Nelson Hancock, and wife Judy. Her nephew, Christopher Hancock and wife Joyce, and their sons, Dylan, and Gavin. Her niece, Jennifer Painter and husband Will, and their daughters, Megan, and Savannah. Her uncle, Boyce Ashwell, her sister-in-law, Cathy W. Day and husband Chris, and their children, Matthew and his wife Karen, Sarah, and Andrew. Matthew’s children, Melina, Laurel, Noah, and Iyla. Andrew’s daughter, Seeley, and a host of Hancock and Ashwell cousins. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm on Friday, June 14, 2024 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at Mt. Mt. Horeb Church, 1934 Carters Mill Road, Huddleston. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Mt.
