

Born April 7, 1937, in Lynchburg, Barbara was the daughter of the late Pidgie Staton and Malvin Thomas Wooldridge. She was a class of 1955 graduate of E.C. Glass High School, attended Vassar College, completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Virginia Curry School of Education, and earned a Master’s degree from Lynchburg College. She taught at the Merridale School in Charlottesville and the Seven Hills School in Lynchburg before establishing herself as a private reading tutor in Lynchburg. She also taught English fundamentals and computer science at Central Virginia Community College. In her prime, Barbara was an avid duplicate bridge player, and she enjoyed tennis, of which she was a lifelong fan. She was a member of the Woman’s Club of Lynchburg and Peakland Baptist Church. She was, among many other things, an excellent cook, a curious reader in an astonishing array of subjects, and an accomplished self-taught painter with a keen eye for art and beautiful objects, with which she filled her home.

Moon, Jr., his wife, Tracy, and two grandchildren, Sydney and Trey.
A memorial service will be conducted by the Rev. Dr. Jim Hunter and the Rev. Nathan Brooks on Wednesday, November 26, 2014, at 12:30, at Peakland Baptist Church, 4018 Peakland Place in Lynchburg. There will be a visitation with the family beginning at 11:00 a.m., prior to the service, and a reception following the service.
The family extends its gratitude to Barbara’s caregiver and friend, Delores Nelson. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial contribution to a charity of one’s choice.
