

Born in Lynchburg, December 29, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Oscar Bland Ayers and Mary Ellen Smith Ayers. Betty lived an active and productive life. She was the co-owner and operator of Kathryn’s Flower shop for many years but her passion was her family. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Betty was a cancer survivor and she courageously battled illness for the last fifteen years. On Saturday the Lord let Betty know that her work on earth was done.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Curtis Ayers, O.B. Ayers, Jr. and Ernest Ayers and one sister, Jean Hughes.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Alfred Ray Mawyer; three children, Stan Mawyer and his wife Leslie of Ocean City, MD, Theresa Watson of Lynchburg, Melissa Mawyer of Jacksonville, NC; one sister, Ann A. Jordan of Lynchburg and three grandsons, Troy Mawyer and his wife Olive and Chris Mawyer and his wife Amy and her youngest, who was her pride and joy, William Heath Mawyer and his wife Casie of Altavista.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Pastor Roger Ewing officiating.
