Born on November 14, 1947, he was the son of the late Barton Brooks and Dorothy White Brooks. Brent proudly served his country during a nine-year career in the United States Navy, achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He served aboard the USS Narwhal (SSN-671), a fast-attack nuclear submarine, and was a proud "plank owner" as a member of the vessel's original commissioning crew. The invaluable education and experience he gained in the military laid the foundation for a long and successful civilian career as a nuclear engineer, ultimately retiring from Babcock and Wilcox.
Brent was known for his hearty laugh and quick wit, always relishing good times shared with family and friends. A natural athlete in his youth, he loved playing hockey and baseball, famously earning the nickname "Quake" after a particularly forceful slide into third base. In later years, his sporting interests transitioned to bowling and golf. Brent had a remarkable ability to excel at whatever he set his mind to, whether it was drawing, playing cribbage, sports, or any of his myriad other hobbies. He cherished the Corvettes he owned over the years and never missed an opportunity to visit a naval museum.
Above all, Brent was deeply dedicated to his wife, Sandee, and his children, who will fondly remember his seemingly endless knowledge on every subject—and his penchant for terrible dad jokes. He was also the proud founder of the Armchair Quarterback League, running the organization for several decades to bring co-workers and friends together and creating a lifetime of cherished memories.
In addition to his parents, Brenton was preceded in death by his brother, Barton Brooks, and his sister, Brenda Lee Brooks.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 56 years, Sandra DaSilva Brooks; his daughter, Rebecca Goldstein, and her husband, Douglas; his son, Brandon Brooks; and two cherished grandchildren, Calvin and Charlotte Goldstein. He is also survived by his aunt, Eleanor (White) Grischo, and her husband, Bill; his sister-in-law, Brenda Brooks; his niece, Mandy Meyer; as well as many loving brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
There will be a gathering to celebrate Brent's life at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
