

“To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord” and on March 20, 2010, Carl Wayne was present with the Lord after a courageous battle with cancer. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 40 years, Hope McFaden Lawhorne.
Born March 8, 1945, he was the son of the late Carl Edward Lawhorne and Marion P. Tucker and her husband Jere Tucker.
In additon to his parents, he was preceded in death by a precious baby girl.
Wayne dearly loved his Lord and Savior, his family, his country, his church family and life in general. He never met a stranger. He loved riding his motorcycle and his companion Earthquake. He was a member of College Hill Baptist Church.
Wayne served in the U.S. Army and the Army Reserve where he was a Drill Sergeant. He retired from B&W after 35 years of service.
He also leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters, Dana Harmon and her husband Jim of Rustburg and Katina Lee and her husband Jim of Forest. He was PePaw to five grandsons, Mark Coffer, Jami, Josh and Jarryd Lee and Ethan Harmon; two granddaughters, Emily Harmon and Krista Lee. He was the beloved brother to Mike Tucker and his wife Wanda and three sisters, Myrna Saunders and her husband Bill, Linda Seigla and Sonja Stephens. He is also survived by two dear sister and brothers in law, Darlene and James Campbell and Brenda and Hunter Garrett and a host of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with the Rev. Andrew P. Grose officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and at other times at the the home of his daughter, 102 Southern Dr., Rustburg.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions are asked to consider the College Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, 1101 Floyd St., Lynchburg, VA 24501, the American Cancer Society or the Hospice of the Hills.
The family would like to offer a specil thank you to the Dr. John Halpin and the staff at Pearson’s Cancer Center and his Hospice nurse, Shanna, for the care and compassion shown to him during his illness, to our neighbors Scot Pauley (Doc) and his wife for all their help and especially to his Walmart girls for their love and support.
