Obituary of Carl Edward Thompson, Sr.
Carl Edward Thompson, Sr., 64, of Columbia, S.C., died Sunday, February 17, 2013, in Columbia S.C. He was the husband of Lesley Elliott Thompson. Born in Albemarle County, he was the son of the late Tom Turner and the late Virginia Lorraine Turner. Carl was a member of Anchor Baptist Church in Columbia, S.C. and the retired maintenance manager of Edward Rose and Sons. He was Past President of the VVA Chapter 196, a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #715 and the past Captain of the Boonsboro Volunteer Rescue Squad. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Chris Wray and his wife, Jennifer, of San Antonio, TX, Lori White and her husband, Duane, of Forest, Carl Thompson, Jr. and his wife, Lauralee and Clay Wray, all of Columbia, S.C.; four brothers, Robert Akers and his wife, Jackie, of Richmond, Billy Thompson and his wife, Stephanie, of Waynesboro, James Ward of Northern Virginia and Tommy Thompson and his wife, Jeanie, of Ruckersville; two sisters, Elaine Carrol of Stuarts Draft and Mary Frances Hoyt and her husband, Michael of Chesapeake; seven grandchildren, Skye Wray of Austin, TX, River Wray of San Antonio, TX, Autumn White, Lawson White and Truitt White, all of Forest and Noah Thompson and Joey Thompson, both of Columbia, S.C.; biological mother, Frances Poff of Hertford, N.C. and his mother-in-law, Myrtle A. Elliott of Crewe. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 21, 2013, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, with Pastor Rick Kirchinger of Anchor Baptist Church and Pastor Chad Brady of North Bedford Baptist Church, officiating. Interment, with military honors by the American Legion Post 16, will follow at Virginia Memorial Park. Refreshments to follow the interment at North Bedford Baptist Church, 4310 Coffee Rd., Forest, VA. 24551. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., on Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
