Born July 11, 1920, in Prince Edward Co., she was a daughter of the late Charles Thomas Bates, and Lilly Silby Bates.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Preston Garnel McAlexander, and six siblings.
Survivors include two sons, Ralph C. “Buddy” McAlexander Jr. and wife Carol, of Lynchburg, and Ronald D. McAlexander and wife (deceased), Margaret, of SC; three grandchildren, David G. McAlexander and wife Lisa, of Richmond, Dale C. McAlexander, of Lynchburg, and Darrin T. McAlexander and wife Tina, of Lynchburg; three great-grandchildren, Genna, Liam, and Isaiah McAlexander, other relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff of Jefferson House, for the care given to Mrs. McAlexander.
A memorial service at Fort Hill Memorial Park will be conducted at a later date.
