The Rev. Charles Richard “Charlie” Harbin, 96, of Forest, a faithful servant, went home to be with his Lord Sunday, July 7, 2019.

His wife of almost 72 years, Annie Hightower Harbin; three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Charlie began his working career in a factory in Detroit, MI building tanks during WWII. While there at Temple Baptist Church, he was exposed to a number of great Christian pastors and leaders. He moved back to Kentucky to work as a coal miner. In 1953 he moved to Cincinnati, OH and later, at the age of 41, began serving the Lord in full time ministry under the leadership of Dr. John Rawlings at Landmark Baptist Temple. In 1979, Charlie accepted an offer from Dr. Jerry Falwell at Thomas Road Baptist Church where he served as the visitation pastor for well over 30 years. He was an extraordinary man and faithful soldier.

He is survived by one brother, Roy Edward Harbin of Corbin, KY; three daughters, Diane Dean and her husband Russell of Forest, Dorcas Lynn Harbin of Huntington, England and Peggy Lou Harbin of Knoxville, TN; four granddaughters, Tonya René Gearhart and her husband David, Michelle Dean Ripley and her husband Randy, Rachelle Dionne Dean and Patricia De Carvalho; two great grandsons, Cameron David Gearhart and Lucas Dean Ripley; three step-great grandchildren, Rip, Thomas and Melissa.

To the Harbin Family: Lots of love and prayers to each of you... I had the wonderful privilege of working for this great man of God for 30 years and loved working for him... I remember him reading God’s word every day and he always thought of everybody and visited so many people... You could always depend on him to be there for you if you needed him. What a great friend to my family!!!!

Wow, share a memory! After accepting Christ as my Saviour in 1957, Charlie took me under his wing! We visited on a regular basis, discussed Bible subjects & encouraged one another. God called me into full time mission ministry, Charlie & Annie were always available when we needed some “word” of advice or encouragement, even on the field. His love for the Lord, faithfulness & integrity was always beaming! Thank you Charlie, my friend, for having a big part in my life & ministry. Will be seeing you before too long, as will the thousands you have influenced for the glory of our Wonderful Lord!

Until then,

I remember working in the offices of Thomas Road Baptist Church with Charlie Harbin. He enjoyed life and people. Charlie Harbin, along with his office staff -- Dave Heerspink and Betty Hamlet -- were an enjoyable group and I know Charlie will be greatly missed. My sincere condolences to Charlie's family -- I am so sorry for your loss.
