Born on October 19, 1947, in Macon, Georgia, Ed was the son of the late Albert Jackson Youngblood Sr. and Adel Lewis Youngblood. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Saundra Lockhart Youngblood, and his brother, Albert Jackson Youngblood Jr.
Ed proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. During his military service, he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medals, and Sharpshooter qualification with the M-14 rifle. He was also a member of New Prospect Community Church in Georgia.
Following his military service, Ed built a long career as a truck driver, retiring from Walmart after 40 years on the road. To those who knew him through trucking, his CB handle was “Walkabout.” His years behind the wheel also left him with a familiar expression, “Roger,” and one of his favorite sayings, “No Filter, No Muffler.” These little pieces of Ed's personality were part of what made him memorable to those around him.
When he wasn't on the road, Ed enjoyed spending time outdoors. He was an avid hunter and loved fishing, animals, and the simple pleasures of being outside. Over the years, he shared his home with three miniature pinschers (Min Pins), Millie, Molly, and Maxwell. For the last 12 years of his life, he was accompanied by his faithful dog, Zero. Above all, Ed treasured the time he spent with his family.
Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Thomas A. Youngblood (Christian Youngblood); his granddaughter, Kristina Youngblood; his sister, Deborah Law (Bobby Law Sr.); and his two nephews, Bobby Law Jr. (Amanda Law) and Donald Law.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Good Samaritan Hospice for the exceptional care and compassion shown to Ed. Special thanks go to Eva, nurse; Sydney, social worker; Chaplain Susan; and Chasity, aide, for their kindness and support.
The family also wishes to express sincere appreciation to Amber, his in-home caregiver, for everything she did for Ed and for the family during this time.
A Celebration of Life and visitation will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Jubilee Baptist Church, 216 Crews Shop Road, Lynchburg, VA 24504. Family and friends are warmly invited to come together to remember and celebrate Ed's life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice at 4751 Cove Road, Roanoke, VA 24017.
