Christine G. Carter, 79, of Lynchburg, VA, was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, October 1, 2026 at her home.
Born on February 7, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Charles Mitchell Goodman and Rosa Phelps Goodman.
Christine retired from Courtland Manufacturing, where she worked as a seamstress. Sewing was more than a job to Christine; it was one of the many ways she showed her love. She was an exceptional seamstress who created countless treasured keepsakes, including quilts and clothing made from the clothes of loved ones who had passed away. She also made beautiful curtains for Moyanne, as well as curtains for many homes belonging to doctors in Lynchburg.
Christine had a true gift for creating beauty wherever she went. She loved planting flowers and had such a passion for gardening that she would even have Tim stop along the side of the road to dig up pretty bulbs so she could take them home and transplant them. She had a green thumb like no other and could make just about any plant grow, often turning one little seed into many. She loved her Mountain Views and treasured every moment spent with her family, especially her daughter and granddaughters.
And when it came to keeping her yard beautiful, Christine took great pride in making everything look just right. After all, making a yard look “PRISTINE” was simply Christine.
Her creativity didn't stop with sewing and gardening. Christine also loved making gorgeous wooden yard decorations. She painted and crafted beautiful pieces for others, including girls and boys on swings, bears, cowboys, and unique plant holders. Her handmade creations brought joy and a little bit of her personality into the yards and homes of many people.
Christine's life was also a testament to strength and devotion. For many years, she was a single mother, working more than one job at a time to make sure her daughter, Dana, always had everything she needed. She worked hard, loved deeply, and always put her family first.
Christine was a beautiful lady with many talents and a gentle, creative spirit. She had a true gift for words and especially enjoyed writing poetry, expressing her thoughts and feelings through beautiful verses. Her creativity, warmth, and unique way with words touched those who knew and loved her, leaving behind cherished memories that will remain in their hearts.
In 1989, Christine met the love of her life, Timothy Carter. Their love story continued for a decade before they married in 1999, beginning a cherished chapter of their lives together.
Christine will be deeply missed by her daughter, Dana Lewis (J.C.); granddaughter, Shana Lynette Lewis; great-granddaughter, Rayna James Bohon; sisters, Barbara Lloyd (Tommy) and Janet Lloyd; brother, Jake Goodman; and her two beloved fur babies, Bonnie and Buffy.
Christine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Timothy Clark Carter; seven brothers; and two sisters.
Those who knew Christine will remember her not only for the things she made with her hands, but for the love she poured into everything she did. Her quilts, flowers, painted yard decorations, and countless other creations were expressions of a woman who found joy in making life more beautiful for the people around her. Her greatest creations, however, were the memories and love she gave to her family.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at Fort Hill Memorial Park, with Pastor Ray Kingrea officiating.
Dana and the entire family would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you for Sandra Peters (niece), Jake Goodman (brother) and Janet Lloyd (sister) and Amedysis Hospice team for all their help and care throughout the last part of her journey.
