Clarence William Goff

He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Katie Martin “Kitty” Goff.

Born in Rustburg on January 28, 1930, he was the son of the late William Bradley Goff and Gracie Nash Goff.

Clarence proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Following his military service, he began a long career with the Virginia Department of Transportation, where he retired as a shop foreman.

A lifelong farmer, Clarence found great joy in working the land. Farming was more than a way of life for him; it was something he truly loved. He especially enjoyed running the family farm with his son, Bill, for many years. He took pride in working with his hands and caring for the farm, and many good memories were made there.

Clarence also had a remarkable talent for fixing things. He could seemingly repair just about anything and became known throughout the neighborhood as the “neighborhood mechanic.” Whether it was a car, tractor, or piece of farm equipment, Clarence was always willing to lend a hand. He enjoyed figuring out how things worked and, more importantly, enjoyed helping his friends and neighbors keep their equipment running. His mechanical skills, generosity, and willingness to help others made him a trusted friend to many.

He was a longtime member of New Chapel Baptist Church and was a familiar and valued part of his community.

Clarence is survived by his son, Clarence W. “Bill” Goff, Jr.; his sister-in-law, Patty Hodnett; his lifelong friend, Jimmy Tweedy; a number of nieces and nephews; and many other good friends and neighbors.

A service celebrating his life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 16, 2026, at New Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Dooley officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church.
