

Clarence Robert Hiner, Sr., of Evington, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, July 24, 2013. He was born in Botetourt County, August 6, 1930 to the late James Shelburn Hiner and Annie Elizabeth Smith. He graduated from Troutville High School in 1948.
On March 10,1950, Clarence married Helen Louise Martin. They were married for 59 years before she passed away in 2009.
Following graduation, Clarence signed a baseball contract in the Appalachian League where he pitched for two years. He also played in his off time in the Botetout County league. He loved the game. He served two years on the Roanoke County Police Department. He then went to work for Sears & Roebuck in 1957 and retired in 1990 after 33 years of dedicated service.
Clarence is mostly known for of all by his love and testimony for his Lord Jesus Christ and his musical talent that influenced so many people including his three children. He served as minister of music for over thirty years in Memphis, TN and the Lynchburg area. He was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church where he enjoyed his service in the Worship Choir.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
He is survived by his three children, Clarence R. (Robbie) Hiner, Jr. of Lynchburg; Mary Elizabeth Welch and her husband Bud of Southaven, MS and John Edwin Hiner of Evington; one brother, Marvin Hiner and his wife Marie of Evington; two sisters, Ruth Dudding of Roanoke and Kathleen Bower of Charlotte, NC; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sweet friend Jeri Anderson, who provided much love and support to Clarence and his family.
A celebration of life through music and the spoken word will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013 in the Pate Chapel of Thomas Road Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 26,2013 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
