On June 24, 2015, surrounded by her family at her home in Goode, Va., Connie Childress Wilson peacefully left her Earthly body to be greeted in Heaven by the Lord and offered a life without pain. Connie put up a courageous battle against her disease and refused to let it destroy her spirit and sense of humor as it took its toll on her body.
Connie was born on October 6, 1962 and for 22 years, she was the devoted wife of Danny Wilson; her two favorite things in the world were her daughter, Savannah (and boyfriend John Thurman) and son, Dakota. Connie is survived by her parents, Randy and Pat Childress of Evington, VA. Connie was the middle sibling and is survived by her sisters, Tammy Brammer and husband Bobby of Forest, and Vicky Delrue and husband Joe of Forest; and her brothers, Brady Childress and wife Cindy of Altavista, and Brent Childress and wife Kim of Goode. As the youngest of the Childress daughters, she was the favorite aunt to her five nieces and one nephew and that tradition continued as she doted over her three great-nieces. She is also survived by numerous cousins and her aunts and uncles, David and Deanna Ponton of Portsmouth, Va., Dot Shelton of Altavista, and Bobby and Debbie Farmer of Lynchburg.
Connie loved outdoors, especially the mountains and the beach and was able to spend a little bit of time in both places with her family and friends before her final days. She loved her family, Duck Dynasty, big trucks, and her close friends who were by her side throughout her illness. Before her illness, Connie worked at Mail America where she had been employed for 10 years.
The entire family would like to thank the nurses of Centra Hospice and the doctors and nurses of the Lynchburg General oncology floor and the Pearson Cancer Center for their dedication to Connie and her entire family throughout her illness. Connie was also overwhelmed by the outpouring of community support she received at a benefit in her honor this spring and thanks everyone for their generosity.
A celebration of Connie’s life will be held from 1:30-3:00 p.m., Saturday, June 27, 2015 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, 7404 Timberlake Road, Lynchburg and will conclude with a graveside service at 4:00 p.m. at Timber Ridge Baptist Church in Bedford County.
