
Curtis Buford Lakes, 79, of Lynchburg, died, Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Joyce Marie Lakes. He was born April 7, 1932 in Lynchburg to the late Lloyd Maurice Lakes and Kathleen Simpson Lakes.
Mr. Lakes was a retired supervisor for the U.S. Postal Service a member of Sandusky Baptist Church. He also served our country in the United States Navy. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 16.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Lakes is preceded in death by one brother, Cecil Lloyd Lakes.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Lakes is survived by two sons, Kevin W. Lakes and his wife Emily of Lynchburg and James Lloyd Lakes and his wife Debbie of Appomattox; and seven grandchildren, Heather and Jason Wells, Hailey and K.W. Lakes, Rachel and Jeremy Lakes and Mitchell Marks.
A funeral service will be conducted, 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 7, 2011, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with the Rev. Ed Vogt officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park, where Military Honors will be presented by the American Legion Post 16.
The family will receive friends, 12-1 p.m., Saturday, May 7, 2011, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the residence.
