Born in Lexington, VA, June 12, 1942, he was the son of the late John Bolden Smith and Louise Jane Webb Smith. He was an auto body mechanic and his passion was working on vehicles in his spare time. He also loved bluegrass and country music and played the acoustic guitar. He was a member of Crosspoint church.
He is survived by four daughters, Brenda Elliott and husband Carl of Appomattox, Virginia Hagan and husband Rusty of Anahuac, TX, Melva Smith, II of Evington and Crystal Takacs and husband Michael of Madison Heights; two sons, Floyd Smith and wife Mary of Houston and Wayne Smith and wife Margaret of Dayton, TX; one sister, Shirley Argenbright of Ellicott City, MD; 13 grandchildren, Summer Floyd, Jonathan Smith, Isabella Takacs, Emily Takacs, Amber Godby, Ashley Hagan, Buddy Hagan, Chelsey Smith, Charles Turley, Justin Gulley, Christopher Chorba, Timothy Long and Michael Sanders and 11 great grandchildren.
A service celebrating his life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at New Monmouth Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Lexington, VA.
