Danny Franklin “Mac” McCulloch, 86, of Coleman Falls, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2024. Born on June 5, 1938, in Lynchburg, Mac was the son of the late Linwood and Edith Stanley McCulloch. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 48 years, Dianna Lee McCulloch. In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by his three sisters; June Plum, Louise Tolley, and Evelyn West.
Mac’s distinguished career in public service began in California, where he served as a Park Ranger and Deputy Fire Warden. Upon returning to Lynchburg in the 1960s, he embarked on a career with the Lynchburg Police Department before dedicating many years as a Special Agent with the ABC Authority, from which he eventually retired.
He is survived by two daughters, Dannette Petty and husband John, and Donna Rice; two sons, Gene P. Ayers, Jr. and William L. “Billy” Ayers; as well as six grandchildren: Cody McCulloch (Kasey), Cara Brooke Peade (Tommy), Torin Ayers, Jarrett Ayers, Johanna Bellovich (David), and Kristin Hicks (Greg). Mac was also a proud great-grandfather to eight great-grandchildren: Easton, Tanner, Gatlin, Sydney, Kayleigh, Lucas, Claire, and Addison.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at the McCulloch family cemetery at the family’s home place with Pastor David Rowland officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
Mac will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his community, his deep love for his family, and his quiet strength. He leaves behind a legacy of service and compassion that will continue to inspire those who knew him.
