Della Vest Rice

Born in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson Vest, Sr. and the late Isabelle Martin Vest. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Richard Preston “Pete” Rice; three brothers, James F. “Peanut” Vest, Andrew J. Vest, Jr. and Homer Vest and three sisters, Gracie V. Henson, Shelby Jean Vest and Virginia V. Booth.

Della was a faithfull, long time member of Cove United Methodist Church and was retired from Pearson’s Drug Store. She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother and grandmother.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, Curry Rice and his wife, Donna, of Coleman Falls, Claude “Boo” Rice and his wife, Sharon, of Monroe and Ricky Rice and his wife, Karen, of Madison; seven grandchildren, Richie Rice, Wayne Rice and his wife, Samantha, Christine Rice, Brandon Rice, Amanda Rice, Ben Rice and Dakota Rice and eight great grandchildren.

The family expresses special thanks to her caretaker, Phyllis Miller, Guggenheimer Rehab Floor, Virginia Baptist Hospital English Staff, Centra Hospice and Dakota Rice.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m., Monday, August 30, 2010, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Pastor Bill Evans and Pastor Shirley Mercer, officating. Interment will follow in Hunting Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
