Dewey Harold Clark
November 20, 1926 – September 27, 2013

Dewey Harold Clark, 86, of Lynchburg, died Friday, September 27, 2013, at his residence. He was the husband of the late Margaret Shumaker Clark.
Born in Danville, he was the son of the late Walter Hugh Clark and the late Myrtle Simmons Clark. In addition to his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Hugh Clark; two sisters, Pearl C. Coffin and Ina C. Phillips and a very special friend, Marie Short.
Dewey was a member of College Hill Baptist Church and a retired letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. While serving his country in the Army during World War II, he worked on the Manhattan Project constructing the atom bomb.
He is survived by one son, Michael H. Clark and his wife, Lu Anne, of Climax, N.C.; one brother, Henry Clark and his wife, Mary, of Orlando, FL; two grandsons, Adam Michael Clark and Evan Robert Clark; a special sister-in-law, Gladys Shumaker of Dillwyn and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 30, 2013, at College Hill Baptist Church with the Reverend Andy Grose officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
In life there are many people who have been extremely helpful to Dewey and the family is especially thankful for the Centra Hospice team, Patrice, Katie and Allison.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the College Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, 1101 Floyd St., Lynchburg, VA 24501.
