Dewey Preston Fitzgerald

Born in Bedford County, September 6, 1938, he was the son of the late Corbert M. Fitzgerald and Dorothy Lawhorne Fitzgerald. He was retired from Lynchburg College and was a member of Clearview Baptist Church. Preston loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Dewey P. Fitzgerald, Jr. and his wife Sarah of Lynchburg, James M. Fitzgerald and his wife Kristi of Farmville, Patrick E. Fitzgerald and his wife Sarah of Leonardtown, MD and Mark A. Fitzgerald and his wife Kathleen of Virginia Beach; two daughters, Janet F. Kramer and her husband Zane of Rustburg and Angela N. Fitzgerald and her fiancé David of Lynchburg; two sisters, Carrie Hamlett of Lynchburg and Lillian Doss of Madison Heights; nine grandchildren,14 great grandchildren and one on the way; a devoted nephew, Wesley Reynolds and his beloved poodle Kiki.

A service celebrating his life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 31, 2016 at Clearview Baptist Church with the Rev. Zane Kramer and the Rev. Terry Cook officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
