Born June 2, 1923, in Lynchburg, Doris was the daughter of the late Clifton T. Ore and Pearl White Ore. She and Calvin were charter members of Chestnut Hill Baptist Church, where they served faithfully since its beginning. Doris and Calvin were frequent visitors at Thomas Road Baptist Church, founded by Calvin’s first cousin, the late Rev. Jerry Falwell, and loved both of her church families very much.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Clifton T. Ore and her sister, Claudia Bradley.
She is survived by three sons, Charles W. Falwell and wife Barbara “B”, Terry W. Falwell and wife Barbara and David C. Falwell and wife Shirley; her former daughter-in-law, Glenda Falwell Fishpaw; and sister-in-law Edna Falwell Twiddy, all of Lynchburg; nine grandchildren, Sherri McMillion (Larry), Charles W. “Chuck” Falwell, Jr. (Andrea), Christopher W. Falwell (Cheri), Shelly Blake (David), Tracey Falwell Marshall (Jerry), Melanie Falwell Kesler (Chris) Tyler W. Falwell (Lauren), Brianna Falwell, M. Craig Falwell (Sally); 18 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Countless people in the Lynchburg area have been blessed through Doris’s many, many hours of volunteer service to the American Cancer Society and Meals on Wheels. She was an avid fan of the Lynchburg Hillcats and Liberty Flames. Even after Calvin’s passing in 2011, she would be found in their sky box faithfully cheering on the Hillcats, or front and center at the Flames stadium watching the football games and enjoying her LU friends. Doris and Calvin’s devoted love and affection for one another were apparent until the day he died. Throughout their lives, Calvin took care of business and Doris took care of him. They loved to serve their church, spend time with family, travel, and entertain in their home. They leave a legacy that truly depicts what God intended marriage to be.
Doris was a lover of all things beautiful. She appreciated nature and had a special love for birds, flowers and sunsets. Her sense of style was amazing; on any given day, she could easily fit on the cover of a fashion magazine. She loved bright colors and would make sure everything – clothes, jewelry, purse, shoes and makeup – all fit together in her special way. She was a true Southern Lady, and had all the style to go with it. Her sense of humor was never ending. Up until her last days, Doris was quick with her wit. On the day before she passed she was asked in the emergency room if she knew what day it was. Even though she was critically ill, she enthusiastically replied, “Happy New Year!”
The family wishes to thank the staff and management of Runk and Pratt at Liberty Ridge for providing a safe and caring environment for Doris for the past three and a half years.
