

Born December 24, 1920 in Franklin County, she was the daughter of the late Oglesby and Madeline Altice Basham. She was a retired employee with General Electric with fifteen years of service and was a former employee of the Lynchburg Hosiery Mill and the Timberlake Christian School Day Care. Mrs. Layne was an active member of Timberlake Baptist Church, where she taught the Beginner Sunday School Class for over fifty years.
Mrs. Layne is survived by two daughters, Nancy L. Miller and husband Gene of Scottsboro, AL and Janice L. Parker of Lynchburg; two brothers, Frank Basham and Johnny Basham and wife Melva; three sisters, Addie B. Dillon, Audrey B. Branch and Barbara B. Bostic; three grandchildren, R. Thomas Parker, Dwayne L Parker and wife Rita, and Kristy M. Fairchild and husband Eric; four great-grandchildren, Christopher Newsome, Graham Fairchild, Emma Fairchild, and Bella Grace Parker; a lifelong and faithful friend, Ruth Lemar and a loving caregiver, Valerie Musgrove.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with the Rev. Johnny Basham and the Rev. Richard Jett officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30 p.m., Friday, October 19, 2012 at the funeral home and other times at the home of her daughter, Janice.
