

Born March 30, 1935 in Lynchburg, son of the late Harry Hillsman Dooley and Annie Meredith Dooley.
He was predeceased by his brother, Neil B. Dooley.
In addition to his wife, he is also survived by a daughter, Ann D. Hicks and husband John of Lynchburg; sons, Dr. Robert Kent Dooley and wife Florence of Richmond and Steven Lee Dooley of Florida; three step children, Cmdr. Ret. H. Robert Johnston and wife Gloria of California, Diane Perdue and husband Keith of Tennessee, and Sheri King and husband Rick of Forest. He is also survived by a sister, Merlyn B. Adams of Florida; four grandchildren, Ashlee Gray Hicks of Lynchburg, Meredith “Maggie” Margaret Dooley, Ian “Mac” McPhail Dooley, and Mason Weeks Dooley, all of Richmond; and a step grandson, Matthew D. King of Forest. He is also survived by two step grandchildren and three step great grandchildren all of Tennessee.
Earl graduated from E.C. Glass High School in 1953, Lynchburg College in 1957 and University of Virginia School of Bank Management. He was a charter member of Timberlake Christian Church and proudly served six years in the Virginia Army National Guard. He was employed for 37 years in the banking industry beginning with First National Bank & Trust Co of Lynchburg and retiring as Vice President of SunTrust Bank. He was also the past owner of Village Hobby Shop. After his retirement, he and his wife spent many happy years at their Smith Mt. Lake home and traveled extensively before moving to the Forest area in 2006 to be close to family and friends.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at Whitten Funeral Home Timberlake Chapel with Rev. Ed Parrish officiating. The family will receive friends following the service until 4:00 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Lynchburg College Hornet Club, Office of Advancement, 1501 Lakeside Drive, Lynchburg, VA 24501 in memory of Earl G. Dooley.
