

Edythe was born in Lynchburg, VA, on July 27, 1923 to the late Charles Edward Stauffer and Malinda Elizabeth Stauffer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Violet Stauffer Hayden.
As a young adult, Edythe moved to New York City where she sang opera and performed at Carnegie Hall, The Roxy Theater on Broadway and with Maestro Arthur Fiedler of the Boston Pops Orchestra. Her career ended early when she returned to Lynchburg to help care for her aging parents. Her life-long love of music and animals resulted in her generous support of the Lynchburg Academy of Fine Arts’ restoration of the historic Academy of Music Theater and the Lynchburg Humane Society. The Edythe Elizabeth Stauffer Center for Pets bears her name.
A funeral service will be held at the Whitten Park Avenue Chapel on Monday, April 11, 2016 at 11 am with the Rev. Kristie Miles officiating.
