

Born June 7, 1927 in Lynchburg she was the daughter of the late Harrison Lee and Ella Beatrice Craddock Nickerson. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Sonny Nickerson of Lynchburg.
Mrs. Phelps was a truly wonderful Mom and homemaker who lived her life in the service of others. She always saw the good in people and many different times she and Franklin opened their home to those in need.
Mrs. Phelps leaves behind a loving family including three sons, Bobby Phelps, Sr and wife Diane of Lynchburg, Franklin L. Phelps, Jr and wife Wilma of Rustburg, and Vincent S. Phelps and wife Carolyn of Forest. Two Daughters, Faye Grant and husband Donnie, and Karen Marlowe all of Lynchburg. She also leaves a special niece who she raised as her own, Lynn Godsey Penick and husband George of Evington, a loving sister Vivian Burley of Lynchburg, 10 Grandchildren and 20 Great Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was a life time member of Tyreeanna United Methodist Church and attended faithfully. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Tyreeanna United Methodist Church, 5215 Tyreeanna Road, Lynchburg, VA 24504.
A very special thanks goes out to family friends and the staff at Lynchburg General Hospital who cared so much for Mrs. Phelps during her final days. You were truly a blessing.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Whitten Timberlake Chapel with the Rev. James W. Martin attending. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening at the funeral home from 6:30 – 8:30 pm.
