Esther Bowyer Ashley, 75, of Lynchburg, passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at Lynchburg General Hospital, with her husband and children by her side. She was the loving wife of Robert Lee Ashley, Jr.
Born on April 26, 1943, in Bedford County, she was the daughter of the late Hilary Marsh Bowyer and the late Elizabeth Davenport Bowyer. Esther was a member of Nicopolis United Methodist Church. She took pride in taking care of her family.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Pamela Springer and husband, Shane, Robert Ashley, III and wife, Laura, Rebecca Hart and husband, Bob, and Deborah Wooten and husband, Rip; eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren; brothers, James Bowyer and wife, Carleen and Robert Bowyer and wife, Delores; sisters, Shirley Bowyer, Margaret Whorley, and Elsie Mitchell and husband, Marshall; and numerous other family members.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Friday, May 18, 2018, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the residence.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2018, at Nicopolis United Methodist Church with Pastor Jim Freeman officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
