I absolutely adored Florence. I got to see her at least once a week for the last few years. She rarely ever missed coming to watch one of my line dance classes. One day I arrived and she was not in her customary spot. When I asked about her, the nurses told me that she was very upset because she had to attend a singing event on the bridge and was worried that she was not going to be back in time to watch my class. She made it, but came in all in a tizzy! I asked her how the event had gone and this sweet, wonderful, hundred-year-old woman looked at me and said emphatically “It was terrible! There was nothing over there but a bunch of old people!” I will miss her humor and her sweet face! I will miss her beautiful and ever-present smile and our little talks. I’ll miss the way she tapped her feet to my music and most of all, I will miss the way she patted my hand and called me “dear”. She was such a joy and my life was better for having had her in it for a while. She was truly a gift! Please know that I share your grief. I am so very sorry for your loss.
