Obituary of Florence Foster Rice
Florence Foster Rice, 95, of Lynchburg, passed away on Friday, November 12, 2010 at Heritage Green Assisted Living. She was the widow of Edward J. Rice. Florence was born on March 2, 1915 at Pedlar Mills, in Amherst County, Virginia, a daughter of the late Fannie Belle and William Foster. She was employed with Brown Morrison, Appalachian Power, and the Postal Inspector’s Office. She was charter member of Chestnut Hill Baptist Church. She graduated has the Salutatorian from Madison Heights High School and was also a graduate of Phillip’s Business College. Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her five sisters: Louise Bebout, Katherine Falconer, Nevie Walton, Sally Ballowe, and Shirley Evans; and her two brothers: W. Massie Foster, and Andrew H. Foster. Florence is survived by her son, Jim Rice, and his wife Shirley, of Vinton; her daughter, Ann Eldridge, and her husband Bob, of Forest; four grandsons: Duane Rice, Todd Rice, Chip Eldridge, and Eddie Eldridge; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Dr. Rob Colwell officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Monday, November 15, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Vinton Relay for Life, c/o American Cancer Society, 2840 Electric Road, Ste. 106, Roanoke, VA 24018.
