

Born August 10, 1915, in Pittsylvania Co., he was a son of the late John Carrington Rowland and Lottie Shelton Rowland. He was also preceded in death by his son, Frank M. Rowland Jr.; by four of his brothers, Perry Rowland, John C. Rowland Jr., Lee Rowland, and Willard Rowland; and two sisters, Thenie Smith and Elvin Midkiff.
Mr. Rowland was retired from Sheraton Hotels. He was a member of Whites United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school for over 20 years. He enjoyed reading, talking with people, traveling and visiting family, and working out in the public. He had a special love for all things in nature, especially birds.
Survivors include five children, Carolyn R. Van Dusen and husband Gerald, of The Villages, FL, Janet R. Bowyer, of Lynchburg, James H. Rowland and wife Pattie, of Bartlett, TN, and Hugh C. Rowland and wife Mickaeline, of Williamsburg; and two sisters, Delma Hershman, of Gretna, and Agnes Johnson, of Forest, 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m., Sunday, January 6, 2013 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the residence of his daughter, Janet Bowyer.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Monday, January 7, 2013, at the funeral home, by Pastor Paul Gillespie. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
