He was born in Lynchburg on December 18, 1932, son of the late George Braxton Almond, Sr. and the late Virginia Eades Almond.
Pete was a United States Navy veteran having served during the Korean war. Following his service in the Navy and wanting to work outdoors, he became a brick mason and even taught brick masonry at Appomattox High School during the 1970’s. His passion was his gardening, supplying his family and the whole neighborhood with tomatoes for many years. He was into conservatism and recycling before it became the standard. He wanted as little to go to the landfill as possible. Pete was a very kind hearted, caring person who never had anything bad to say about others and would literally give the shirt off his back to help someone else.
His beloved wife of 62 years, Norma Erbacher Almond, preceded him in death as well as a sister, Jean Jenkins.
He is survived by 2 daughters, Susan Williams and husband Steve and Beth Lindsay and husband Neal; a son, David Almond and wife Jackie. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Chelsea, Evan and Kelly.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, March 12, 2021 at Virginia Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Meals on Wheels of Greater Lynchburg, 605 Clay St, Lynchburg, VA 24501.
