George Robert Robert Hamlet
August 5, 1928 – August 29, 2013

George Robert Hamlet, 85, of Gladys, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, August 29, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Betty Tanner Hamlet.
Born in Charlotte County, August 5, 1928, he was a son of the late Robert Lee and Lula Morton Hamlet. He was retired from Limitorque Corporation after 42 years of service and presently employed at Craft Automotive. Robert proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict and received a purple heart for combat injuries. He was an active member of Thomas Road Baptist Church and served as an usher and worked for Children’s Ministries for over 45 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 16.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William (Bill) Hamlet, Sr. and Dave Hamlet and a nephew William Hamlet, Jr.
In addition to his wife, he leaves to cherish his memory three loving sons, Tony Randal Hamlet and wife Mattie of Lynchburg, Kevin Dale Hamlet and wife Danielle of Forest and Ricky Alan Hamlet and wife Erin of Forest; three grandchildren who were the light of his life, Charles Bradley Mills of Roanoke, Jennifer Marie Hamlet of Lynchburg and Kari Noel Hamlet of Concord; three brothers, Melvin Hamlet, Harold Hamlet and wife Dorothy, James (J.P.) Hamlet and wife Lyndia and one sister, Carol Waller and husband Owen.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at Thomas Road Baptist Church with Pastor Jonathan Falwell and the Rev. David Heerspink officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park with military honors by the American Legion Post 16.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, September 2, 2013 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the residence.
