George Meredith McBride

George was born on August 5, 1940 in Queens, NY, a son of the late Thomas Meredith McBride and Marie McBride.

George is survived by his wife Susan McBride of Forest, a daughter, Colleen Poole and her husband Jeremy Poole of Lynchburg, VA, a son Terence McBride, and a daughter Tara Bartholomew of Richmond, VA. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, but most of all a great friend.

He is also survived by a granddaughter Madeline Dawn Poole, who was the light of his life. He was a very dedicated and loving grandfather.

George attended West Point Military Academy and Adelphi University. He was a dedicated employee of BWXT for 42 years. He was generous in spirit and a good friend to all.

He fought a courageous battle with esophageal cancer. He was fearless and never complained throughout his treatments.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. A mass of celebration of George’s life will be conducted at 4:00 pm on Friday, January 13, 2012 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Lynchburg, VA conducted by Rev. Richard Mooney.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
