He was born on May 25, 1936 in Oshkosh, WI and was preceded in death by his wife of over fifty years, Marrie K. Mees and son, Charlie Mees.
Gerald was retired from Lynchburg College after serving his country for over 20 years in the United States Navy. He was a diehard Green Bay Packers fan, a lover of good food and very family oriented.
Survivors include a daughter, Shelia Lynn Murphy (Butch Gilliam); a granddaughter, Brandi Phillips (Ryan); 2 great grandchildren, Braeden Knichel and Isabella Phillips.
A celebration of life will be held at 7:00 pm on Friday, March 1, 2019 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Rev. Jim Whittaker officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517.
